What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Skin resurfacing with a laser at RareV is a nonsurgical skin care procedure that utilizes pulsating beams of light to exfoliate damaged surface skin. This treatment is performed for the purpose of correcting facial lines and wrinkles and to improve skin irregularities, such as pigmentation, acne scars, and other flaws. Sometimes called a laser peel, laser skin resurfacing is considered an ideal facial treatment for patients who desire softer, clearer, youthful-looking skin. Depending on the current condition of the patient's complexion, our Harmony XL Pro laser can be adjusted accordingly. If you think a laser skin resurfacing treatment could be the solution your complexion needs to achieve a smoother, softer look and feel, schedule a consultation at our Las Vegas, NV office. Our team is highly knowledgeable in the field of skin care and uses their skills to create stunning results for our patients.
Types of Laser Treatments
RareV offers three types of laser skin resurfacing procedures that are chosen depending on your skin's condition. Some are performed for milder cases of skin damage while others are more aggressive: Ablative laser treatments remove thin skin layers, like dermabrasion or a deep chemical peel, with a high level of control that permits the technician to avoid damage to the skin. Ablative lasers are best for firming the skin and correcting wrinkles and acne scars. Non-ablative laser treatments do not remove the skin; instead, the laser light creates micro-damage to the skin cells to prompt the body's natural healing response. Non-ablative treatments are ideal for removing fine lines and wrinkles on those who are able to wait several months for strong results. Fractional laser treatments are a combination of ablative and non-ablative that create micro-damage in the lower layers of the skin. The body's natural healing process leads to tighter skin. Fractional laser treatments can also be used to help deep wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation.
Who can get Laser Skin Resurfacing?
There are multiple factors to take into consideration when choosing which laser peel technique is best for you. Laser skin resurfacing is ideal for people who are unsatisfied with their skin's appearance. If you're bothered by sun-damaged skin, acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, or redness issues, a laser peel procedure may be helpful to address these cosmetic flaws. In addition, laser skin resurfacing works well for those who have rough texture, scaly patches, or other irregularities. This treatment isn't recommended for anyone who has very dark skin or active acne. It's also important to consider the recovery time needed following the treatment. Some patients, depending on the condition of their skin, may need up to 2 – 3 weeks to make a full recovery.
How is it done?
If you receive a deeper or more intense laser peel, you may be asked to use a retinoid product for 2 – 3 weeks before your laser treatment. The retinoid helps prep the skin for better results. Medication will be suggested prior to the procedure to help reduce any pain for increased comfort throughout your appointment. If your skin only needs mild correction, a topical anesthetic may be used to numb certain areas of the face. For the whole complexion or deeper laser procedures, some form of sedation may be necessary. During the procedure, you will relax in our special treatment chair while the Harmony XL Pro handpiece glides over the skin, directly targeting the specific areas for rejuvenation. You may feel the heat of the laser followed by cold air from the system's built-in cooling device. The laser is designed to destroy damaged and dead skin cells while also stimulating new collagen production.
Results after Laser Skin Resurfacing
Following lighter peels, an ointment will be smoothed over the treated skin, and you can go home to recover. The treated skin will appear red at first, and there may be some swelling and irritation; however, these symptoms will subside within a few days, and the peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day period. If you are getting a deeper laser peel, your downtime period will be longer. You can expect the burning, irritation, and swelling symptoms to be more intense, but pain medication can be prescribed to lessen these side effects. The recovery period associated with a deeper peel may last several weeks. Each patient should minimize their UV exposure following their laser treatment and apply sun protection regularly. For all laser peel treatments, the skin will naturally crust, flake, and peel away. It's important to avoid interfering with the healing process to evade scarring and to protect your skin from environmental exposure. After the peeling process has concluded, your skin should feel softer while also appearing rejuvenated, younger, and clearer.
